Drum/Tank Field Test Data Sheet for Sampling

This standard operating procedure (SOP) is to provide technical guidance on implementing safe and cost-effective response actions at hazardous waste sites containing drums with unknown contents. Container contents are sampled and characterized for disposal, bulking, recycling, segregation, and classification purposes. Prior to sampling, drums must be excavated, (if necessary), inspected, staged, and opened. Drum excavation must be performed by qualified personnel. Inspection involves the observation and recording of visual qualities of each drum and any characteristics pertinent to the classification of the drum's contents. Samples collected from drums are considered waste samples and as such, adding preservatives is not required due to the potential reaction of the sample with the preservative.
