Welding, Cutting Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA)

Welders often join metals together with high-energy or high-heat tools, and may also cut and separate metals using these very same tools. These workers often risk their health and well-being in performing this work, and every step should be taken to minimize threats to their safety. Using the Welding, Cutting Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) app, a user can note every step in every activity of welding or cutting work, those steps can be analyzed so that hazards are identified, and then control measures and safe practices can be identified and put in place to minimize these threats. For example, when using this app, job activities such as preparing to weld or cut, welding in confined spaces, and even performing welds and cuts under normal circumstances can be broken down into key components. From here, the hazards of welding activities can be noted, and control measures or mitigating strategies can be put in place to increase occupational safety. Such strategies may include requiring the use of personal protective equipment, ensuring ventilation is available in a work area, providing protective equipment such as masks and UV shields to welders/cutters, and ensuring that welding and cutting processes are being performed in line with industry standards.
