Insurance appraisers may be limited in the hazards presented to them, but it is important to analyze a job, going task by task through all of the job steps, to identify what job tasks can pose risks and how those risks can be mitigated properly. Insurance companies hire different types of workers: claims adjusters evaluate loss, damage, and insurance claims to determine how much and what an insurer should pay for a claim based upon the coverage of an insurance policy holder, while an appraiser evaluates property to determine a level of coverage or the financial impact in terms of value from automobile damage. Insurance appraisers looking at brand new automobiles to determine value may not be subject to much risk, but when the insurance company dispatches a worker to a junk yard or scrap yard, potential hazards can present themselves.
