How does it work?
Determine if any pre-existing condition presents a hazard and note action taken to control the hazard Turn on gas sensor and confirm base readings. (20.9% O2; LEL 0; CO 0). Record sensor serial or stock # Lower sensor into the hold at a location where the working level of the hold can be reached. Pause for 30 seconds at the top, middle and bottom. Retrieve sensor and record information, noting alarms or warnings. If sensor indicates alarm or unusual atmosphere, do not enter hold or access ways, and guard against entry by others. Record sensor readings. Allow hold to ventilate for 30 minutes, then re-test. To test accessways, open access way, secure cover, and lower sensor as far as practicable into access way. Pause for 30 seconds, and retrieve sensor. If testing indicates 1st accessway atmosphere sample is non-hazardous, confirm sensor base reading, secure sensor to person using clip or lanyard, ensuring the diffusion area is exposed. Enter access way and descend to lowest level. Ensure all gang access areas are assessed. Close any open doors or holds not required for access. If sensor indicates alarm at any point, leave area immediately.
