Infants and those who have not received the immunisation are particularly susceptible to the disease. When there is a suspected case of measles, a health facility must follow a specific protocol to ensure that both patient care and infectious disease control is enacted promptly. The PHU Measles Checklist (Australia) app will guide a health facility through a comprehensive process of confirming and reporting a case of measles. The app user will find a step-by-step process for handling the case beginning with contacting the primary care physician to obtain patient's health history, confirm results of lab tests, and assess whether others were exposed to the infectious disease. The health facility will contact the patient to review measles vaccination status, symptoms of measles, identify the potential source of the virus, and provide additional resources on the disease. With the app, the health facility will move through a series of checks with patient's contacts to assess the risk of measles and recommend interventions such as the measles vaccination. If evidence of the virus is confirmed, the appropriate stakeholders listed should be alerted to prevent further spread of the communicable disease.
