Hazardous Waste Tank System Daily Inspection Log

There are several requirements: a large quantity waste generator or onsite waste treatment operation using a tank system to manage waste are required to conduct these inspections; and the tank system inspection records are to be onsite, available for inspector review, and kept for at least three years. If the tank system or a component of the tank system (i.e. piping, pumps, valves,secondary containment, sump, etc.) is in poor condition or unfit for service, the tank system operator must take proactive steps to investigate, repair, and/or replace the equipment, parts, or components.

Using the Hazardous Waste Tank System Daily Inspection Log app, the owner or operator shall inspect, where present, at least once each operating day: (1) overfill/spill control equipment to ensure that it is working; (2) the aboveground portions of the tank system, if any, for waste leak detection; (3) data gathered from monitoring equipment and leak detection equipment, (4) the construction materials and the area immediately surrounding the tank system including secondary containment structures; and (5) for uncovered tanks, the level of waste in the tank, to ensure compliance. The app also makes it easier for owners and operators to periodically inspect cathodic protection systems. The inspector must answer a series of yes or no questions, including: is the system free of corrosion and damage? Are pipes, valves, and pumps free of leaks? Is the leak detection program working? There is also a space for comments if necessary.
