DOJ Crime Scene Investigation (CSI): Initial Responding Officer(s) Mobile App
The DOJ Crime Scene Investigation (CSI): Initial Responding Officer(s) is an app that can be used to guide and assistant initial responding officers (either patrol officers, police officers, or other law enforcement professionals) in how to handle crime scene investigations, and to have the correct equipment on hand for properly securing and processing the crime scene.
How does it work?
Crime scene investigators have expectations about the state of a crime scene when they arrive. Having essential materials such as search and consent forms, crime scene barricade tape, a first-aid kit, flares, evidence bags, and more. If initial responders have the proper equipment on hand, it can help with ensuring that a criminal investigation taking place after the crime scene investigation can be conducted without incident. Additionally, properly responding to a crime scene can ensure that any forensic evidence from the scene of the crime is available for prosecutors to use in trial or crime lab technicians to process. This app is useful not only for Department of Justice agents, but also a wide range of other law enforcement agents concerned with crime scene and forensic investigations.
The DOJ Crime Scene Investigation series of app is intended for use by law enforcement and other responders who have responsibility for protecting crime scenes, preserving physical evidence, and collecting and submitting the evidence for scientific examination. Physical evidence has the potential to play a critical role in the overall investigation and resolution of a suspected criminal act. Realization of this potential depends on actions taken early in the criminal investigation at the crime scene.
