Prior to beginning work, the mining company owner, operator or other person in charge must notify the nearest MSHA office and Metal and Nonmetal Mine Safety and Health District Office with details about the new project work. The app allows this to be done electronically using a smartphone or tablet.
The electronic notification form covers the mine company name, project location, mailing address, contact details for the person in charge, and whether operations will be continuous or intermittent. Prior to closing the mine, the person in charge must notify the nearest district office and indicate whether the closure is temporary or permanent.
