Pro Recycling Group has been dedicated to providing affordable, efficient and environmentally safe waste management services to their clients for the past 30+ years. But while PRG had steadily become one of the top rated, industry leaders on the West Coast, their internal operations were still being run on pieces of paper. This was making things extremely difficult for the back office, especially considering that PRG is comprised of three tightly knit divisions: Pro Baler, Interwest Paper, and Pro Polymers Inc.
This organizational structure, along with the inefficiencies that come with paper, was causing PRG to be actually slowed down by its own success. As they acquired more and more business, the stacks of paperwork needing to be processed only grew higher. This is why Mike Shaw, Director of IT & Safety, approached GoCanvas about consolidating their various paper-based processes into a single mobile platform.
The Senior Mobile App Consultants at GoCanvas worked with Mike and the team at Pro Recycling Group to develop a plan to consolidate their core operational processes into mobile forms. The ultimate goal was to create a single place for every employee of PRG, not matter of company division, to be able to log into and access all of their documents.

But Mike and the team at PRG didn’t stop there. They further tailored their mobile processes by implementing features like GoCanvas Dispatch to automate the way tasks were assigned and received by their field staff. Instead of drivers having to come all the way back to the office to drop off and pick up new orders multiple times per day, now the office staff can simply assign tasks at the beginning of the day or week and notifications will be automatically sent to each employee’s GoCanvas device. This saves each technician close to an hour each day and has significantly attributed to the recovery of over 600 hours in productivity every year!
They have also implemented GoCanvas Workflow to increase the efficiency of their Work Order process. Now if a customer’s baler breaks down and needs immediate repair, A PRG technician can immediately send a request for maintenance from their mobile device to the office for immediate review and processing in real-time.
After just over 12 months of using GoCanvas with their field crews, PRG has already recognized huge impacts in their operational efficiency. “Sometimes it would be 3-4 weeks to get information back to the office, and now it’s daily”, said Mike Shaw, Director of IT & Safety at PRG. This has led to them recognizing a net return of over $39,000 in time savings alone.
And to help with the organization of data across their business, Mike enabled GoCanvas Departments. This feature allows each business division of PRG to keep its data and employees separated from each other while allowing key office personnel, like the owner, to view and access data through a single GoCanvas portal. “The owner can now see a satellite view of everything that’s going on in his company as it trickles in in real-time”, said Mike Shaw.
But the biggest benefit thus far of going paperless with GoCanvas has been the ability to capture and send back information to the office in real-time. No more delays. No more excuses. Previously reports would sometimes get lost or disappear, but now everything is returned to the office within minutes thanks to GoCanvas. This recovery of time and efficiency is how PRG saved just over $95,000 with GoCanvas in year one.
“The biggest selling point (of GoCanvas) is getting your information back in real-time. Technicians can’t lose the paperwork because it’s all electronic”, commented Mike Shaw.
