GoCanvas Helps One Organization in Their Mission to Restore Eyesight in Children.

Jonathon Owens is an Advertising Art Director for a prominent international advertising agency, working in Sydney, Australia.

Jonathon has a degenerative eye disease, which is gradually reducing his central focus. “I think about the implications of losing my vision daily and it terrifies me. I’m lucky that my vision will not completely disappear, but millions of children around the world are losing their eyesight unnecessarily every day. I want to help change this.”

And help change things he did by establishing Twenty Twenty Visions, a fund raising vehicle for The Fred Hollows Foundation, an independent, non-profit, secular organisation that has worked in over 40 countries around the world and with Indigenous communities in remote parts of Australia.

Jonathan recently staged a photographic exhibit at Hemadeshemade Gallery on Oxford Street in Sydney.  “I am lucky enough to have worked with artists who produce world-class work across an array of disciplines. Many of their pieces donated to the Exhibit sell for thousands and others charge huge amounts of money for their services, so it’s very generous of them to donate their visions to our cause.” Some famous names include Julia Fullerton-Batten, James Joyce, Mick Marston, Adrian Brown, Markku Lahdesmaki and Hattie Newman.

I asked Jonathon if the money raised that evening met his expectations. “In a we raised over $8,000 for the charity which is amazing! Well beyond what I expected.  Everyone was so generous. This will transform the lives of over 250 children by restoring their eyesight. That makes it all worthwhile.”

Q: How did the GoCanvas Products perform?

A: “The canvas platform was exceptional. It meant we could take orders efficiently and accurately without the chance of any orders being lost or wrong. The final spread sheet automatically produced by the GoCanvas App has made fulfilment of the orders 10 times easier too.”

Q: Did it take long to train your sales people in using GoCanvas?

A: “We installed the GoCanvas Apps on some iPads. The guys taking the orders had the App in their hands for 2 minutes and they were pros! They all found it easy to understand and use, the annotations explained all of the functionality perfectly.”

Q: Did it take long to complete an order using the GoCanvas Apps?

A:  “The orders flowed smoothly all night and when the rush came at around 9.30 (after everyone had drunk all the wine and beer), the app kept pace with demand effortlessly.”

Q: Would you recommend Canvas?

A: “The gallery space we used saw the canvas app in action and are already investigating how they can get their hands on GoCanvas Apps to use for all of their future exhibitions. I would recommend it to anyone!

An estimated 39 million people around the world today are blind. Four out of five don’t have to be. Simple interventions, such as inexpensive medication and surgery, can restore peoples’ sight. Fred Hollows had a vision of ending avoidable blindness. With the help of our partners and supporters, The Foundation is working to make Fred’s vision a reality.

GoCanvas is proud to have played a small part with that Vision.
