Are you trying to build or improve your mobile app? You don't need to know code to get started with our drag and drop interface. Nevertheless, here are a few tips to help you get started with the GoCanvas mobile app builder.

Are all apps one long screen?

With GoCanvas, you can have multiple screens for your app. This can be helpful to organize your form with different sections. For instance with an HVAC work order, one screen can have customer information, another can note the repairs, and the final screen can tally up labor and material costs and the amount owed.

To add a new screen, follow these steps.

1. Log into GoCanvas at www.gocanvas.com
2. Go to the My Apps tab.
3. Create a new GoCanvas mobile app, or edit an existing app
4. Once in the app builder, click Add Screen at the top of the screen.

5. Choose the screen type you want and name it.
6. Click Done

Repeat this to add as many or as few screens as you'd like.

Making a list is impossible!

Are you trying to add multiple items to a list? Perhaps you need to make a list of items you need to purchase. Or you're trying to create an itemized invoice. In either case, a list screen is perfect for your app. It lets you repeat the same screen and enter as many items as you like.

To make a simple list, follow these instructions:

1. Log into GoCanvas at www.gocanvas.com
2. Go to the My Apps tab.
3. Create a new GoCanvas mobile app, or edit an existing app
4. Once in the app builder, click Add Screen at the top of the screen.  You will be prompted to enter a screen name and select a screen type
5. Enter a name and choose Simple List. Below, you can see what it looks like to add a simple list screen to your  app.

6. Click Done to add the screen
7. You will be immediately prompted for the first field on the screen. Choose the type of field you want. For item number, choose text box.
8. Enter the distinguishing element. For instance, to replace the item number column in your work order, write in item number. Click Done.

Now you have a simple list for your mobile app. Repeat this for as many itemized lists you would like.

What's a value list?

The term value list often confuses customers of GoCanvas. But this item is a helpful tool for mobile apps. A value list gives the user a set number of possible responses to an answer.

For instance, a pest control form might ask: was the customer home at time of visit? A value list would allow the user to simply choose yes or no. Another way our customers use value lists is to pre-populate their apps with their own data. For instance, companies can create reference lists of their own customers. When the user chooses a customer, the customer's information automatically fills the rest of the fields

Want to add a value list to your app? Follow these steps

1. Log into GoCanvas at www.gocanvas.com
2. Go to the My Apps tab.
3. Create a new GoCanvas mobile app, or edit an existing app
4. On the right hand side you'll see value list. Drag it into the center screen.

5. Automatically a screen will pop up. Next to label, enter the name you want for that field
6. Choose Populate with to use reference data. Click here to learn more about this powerful feature.

You're all set with a value list. Repeat this as many times as you want for multiple value lists.

What's an integer?

Integer is a term for number, specifically a whole number without decimals. So 34 is an integer but 3.67 is not. If part of filling out your forms includes math with only whole numbers, then integer can be a great tool. Some of our customers use it in their inventories. Others use it to calculate quantities or material they need.

Want to use an integer field? Follow these steps

1. Log into GoCanvas at www.gocanvas.com
2. Go to the My Apps tab
3. Create a new GoCanvas mobile app, or edit an existing app
4. On the right hand side you'll see Integer. Drag it into the center screen.

5. Automatically a screen will pop up. Next to label, enter the name you want for that field

Copying one of my apps is impossible!

A lot of our customers love an app they already use. They want to make another one like it, but with only a few edits. With GoCanvas, you don't have to build your copy from scratch, you can make a copy. This allows you to have a completely identical app in moments. You can tinker and edit the copy without altering the original app in any shape or form.

Copying an app can be great for a variety of reasons. Perhaps a site inspection needs a bit of tinkering for a different location. If you're testing a new feature, a copy of the app allows you to test new edits without altering your original app.

Want to make a copy of your app? Follow these steps:

1. Log into GoCanvas at www.gocanvas.com
2. Go to the My Apps tab
3. Next to the app you wish to copy, click More arrow

4. Then you will see a drop down of options. Click Copy.

In your list of apps, You will see a new app show up. It will have the same title as your original app but with Copy at the end. The copied app will be ready for use, or for any edits you want to make.
