James has a long history of building successful wireless companies. Prior to Canvas, James was Vice President and Managing Director at inCode Wireless, which was later acquired by VeriSign. Other successful start-ups include Aether Systems, Orbcomm, and Peak Technologies (formerly a division of R.R. Donnelley). James has won numerous awards, including winning the prestigious InformationWeek Business Innovation "IT Hero" award, named in the “Top 50 CEO’s,” by the Center for Innovative Technology, honored as one of the top 20 global executives in his field by CLO Magazine & World Supply Chain Forum, and named one of the top 10 DC founders over 40. In 2007 his team designed and delivered a mobile solution that was used for tracking deadly global pandemics an application that utlimately won the Motorola Wireless Solution of the Year Award.
James sits on the Board of The Washington West Film Festival, LetsGiveBack.org, and is a co-founder and partner in the co-working, innovation experiment Refraction. James is currently a Commissioner & Board Member of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) sworn in 2016. James, a former U.S. Naval Reserve Officer, holds a B.S. in Marine Engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy. When not at work, James enjoys listening to music of all types, gaming, running, spending time with his wildly precocious children and attending events that celebrate the intersection of technology and art.

Chief Architect & Co-Founder
As the guru behind Canvas' product architecture, Chris balances the yin of strategy with the yang of execution. Chris cites the agile development environment at Canvas as one of the reasons the company attracts top technical talent. “At some companies product iterations take months…here we launch new releases every two weeks.” Prior to Canvas, Chris held lead developer and architect positions with a number of software and consulting firms. Chris was CTO of Zua Scene when his company partnered with VeriSign to develop what would ultimately become the Motorola Wireless Solution of the Year. Chris’ favorite Canvas app was developed by a major cola bottling company to monitor vending machine inventory which allows service technicians to significantly shorten the time it takes to refill machines and report field issues.
When not running Canvas development, Chris can be found running on roads and treadmills in Northern Virginia and in Central America, his favorite travel destination.
Chief Mobile Architect & Co-Founder
Matt is responsible for the design and development of the Canvas experience on mobile platforms. Matt says, “I still get excited every time I use Canvas --the possibilities for these applications are endless.” One of Matt’s most memorable customer experiences is when he interacted with a professional services firm over chat and built them a custom app within an hour. “They were blown away,” he says. Matt believes the apps Canvas has built for HVAC companies and other service businesses are some of the most valuable in the Canvas Application Store. “We can cost effectively and quickly deliver data capture solutions for a 5-10 user shop for a fraction of what these businesses are spending today,” he says. Matt is fluent in a multitude of programming languages and operating systems and prior to co-founding Canvas, Matt held software development and leadership roles at a number of mobile and wireless companies including Peak Technologies, NEXIQ and Rockwell Collins.
Matt lives in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with his wife, Katie, and enjoys fishing, golfing, hunting and whipping up meals of venison fried in pancake batter for his friends and family.
Chief Financial Officer
Marc Rubin comes to Canvas with more than 20 years of financial and operational management experience, with a proven track record guiding startups and technology companies through aggressive growth and expansion, including many rounds of venture capital financings. Marc has served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer at several well-known and successful fast growth technology companies in the Mid-Atlantic region, including Sequoia Software (IPO; Acquired by Citrix), Sourcefire (IPO; Acquired by Cisco), and Rovion (Acquired by Gannett). Prior to working with emerging businesses, Marc worked in finance and accounting management positions at Black & Decker and London Fog.
Most recently, Marc was the founding partner of ArcPoint Partners, providing outsourced finance, accounting, and HR services to tech startups across New York, Silicon Valley, and the Mid-Atlantic. One of these clients was Canvas, and it was during this outsourced relationship that Marc observed Canvas's growth and recognized the opportunity to become a more integral part of the company's future.
When not at Canvas, you can find him rooting for both the Ravens and Orioles. He also loves spending time with his family and kids.
Vice President, Channel Sales & Business Development
Joe is responsible for developing Canvas’ larger partner network including relationships with major device manufacturers and wireless carriers. Joe is a veteran of the telecommunications industry with more than 20 years of experience in the mobile enterprise and mobile content space. Joe has held leadership positions at SkyZone Mobile, Aether Systems and SkyTel among others. Joe’s favorite Canvas app is a safety inspection checklist for a company in the power industry that was paying to overnight up to two weeks’ worth of paper reports from the field to headquarters prior to using Canvas. Joe recalls, “These guys were on cloud nine when they realized Canvas could help them cut printing and shipping costs and allow them access to critical information in real time.” He adds, “This is why I love what we do at Canvas – we absolutely have a positive impact on business.”
During the off hours, Joe enjoys spending time with his wife and children, coaching youth soccer and tending to his garden. Joe is a self-described, “tennis addict,” and says he likes working at Canvas because, “We are influencing the way people are conducting business on a global level…Canvas is truly a revolutionary service.”
Vice President – Application Store
Prior to joining Canvas, Mike held marketing leadership positions at the Deluxe Corporation, one of the largest printers in the world. Mike also worked at NEBS, Inc., The Franklin Mint and Jones, Day Reavis & Pogue. His background includes developing corporate-wide, cross-channel vertical market programs covering several industries, as well as product managing business productivity-oriented product lines. He has extensive experience in B2B SMB marketing and product development, with particular expertise in the construction, field service, professional service and retail industries.
Mike came to Canvas because he believes, “Canvas is right where business is headed–mobile apps replacing paper-based processes." He loves that Canvas is dynamic, fast paced and that, "there is no steady state here." Mike also enjoys working for Canvas because the company embraces the idea of giving back to the community.
When not at work, Mike serves on a number of Boards both domestically and globally, including being Board President of his condominium association, President of a 503c organization focused on historic building preservation and reuse in northern New Jersey, as well as being a Board Member of a Jerusalem-based Technical school that is partnered with Microsoft, ORACLE and Cisco to bring robotic and technical education to disadvantaged students. When not working and volunteering, Mike enjoys spending time with his family, working out, listening to all kinds of music and traveling. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Southern Methodist Universtiy, and a Masters in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.
EVP Global Business Development
A self-described, ‘startup junkie,’ Andrew is charged with growing Canvas' global footprint through strategic partnerships. Andrew works with wireless carriers, hardware resellers, systems integrators and content partners, and is managing a team who support Canvas customers around the world. Prior to joining Canvas, Andrew led the growth of SpinVox in the Asia-Pac region, helping the company become a world leader in voice-to-text services. Andrew has held leadership positions at a number of other tech startups including Tranglo, nudgemobile, Virgin Home and eToys UK. Andrew came to Canvas because, he says, “I love how simple and powerful Canvas products are and I enjoy helping business customers make the most of their mobile devices.” Andrew thrives in a startup culture where, “It’s always fun to work with a team of energetic people to bring great new products to the world.”
Andrew is also an avid tennis fan and adventure traveler. He is an accomplished musician who recently wrote and performed in the "Raymond Rocks" commercials in Australia.
Managing Director, Asia Pacific
Stuart comes to Canvas to drive growth, growth and more growth across the Asia Pacific region. Having lived in Australia for almost 14 years but still armed with his lilting Irish brogue, Australia is first cab off the rank with New Zealand and the wider APAC region following close behind. Stuart is a bona fide mobile veteran and wireless specialist with a long history in launching innovative must-have solutions to market from both within the carriers - 6+ years at Optus (Australia’s no.2 carrier) - and through the carriers as partners from start-up land.
Stuart says he joined Canvas because, “The company is at an inflection point where technology is clearly pervasive and now within the reach and understanding of everyone. The long-overdue redundancy of paper in business and everyday life is the next logical step towards a cleaner, greener and more productive future. Canvas is fueling that change and who wouldn’t want to be part of that.”
Chief People Officer
Kathy goes where no HR person has gone before. She has helped two companies grow to over 100 employees in less than 18 months as an HR department of one. She's confident the third time will be a charm at Canvas, where she'll need to balance the yin of culture and the yang of execution.
Leveraging her 20 years’ experience, Kathy brings a unique perspective of what companies that have raised, or are preparing to raise, venture capital need to do to execute well, from the investor as well as the operating side. In 2004, she founded KAT Consultants to provide strategic HR consulting and recruiting services to entrepreneurial venture capital-backed companies building a high performance workforce and creating the culture to support it. Enamored by stock options, she became an employee of her first client, SunRocket, and helped scale the revolutionary VoIP company from inception to 100 employees in less than 18 months and ultimately to more than 200 employees in three years through five rounds of funding totaling an unprecedented $100 million. Most recently, Kathy joined another client, Optoro, where headcount quadrupled from 50 to 200 employees, revenue tripled and more than $70M was raised in venture capital funding in three years.
Kathy's entrepreneurial roots sprouted at UVA where she helped open a restaurant. In 1997, she was part of the team that launched MindShare, an exclusive invite-only program designed for CEOs, and she's been volunteering ever since as the group's Coordinator, Director of Alumni Relations and Board member. She was excited that Canvas had less than 50 people when she joined and that James, our CEO, stressed culture, empathy, going green and giving back through the Ante Up program. "No matter how great your technology is, passionate people and culture make the difference. So many things about Canvas appealed; it made me a perfect match for the role."
When she's not working, Kathy loves spending time with her daughters, who together have ridden an elephant, fed giraffes and rhinos, and been swimming with dolphins and manatees. Born in Charlottesville at The University of Virginia where her father was a QB on the football team, Kathy is an avid sports fan and loves rooting for her Cavaliers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
James is tasked with supercharging Canvas marketing as well as the performance of our partners. He works with the marketing team to hone brand messaging, increase market awareness and cement our leadership position in the highly competitive business apps space. He also heads channel enablement, helping channel partners make Canvas part of their mainstream customer proposition.
Before Canvas, James held executive positions in some of the world’s largest brands and exciting early stage hi-tech businesses, disrupting markets that fail to serve their customers. He has built global marketing/sales teams and SaaS operations across companies that include: Orange, NEC, The Automobile Association, SpinVox and Myriad Group. James has twice built 100 million+ user bases and deployed mobile apps in over 4 billion connected devices.
James says he joined Canvas because “I was intrigued as a couple of ex-colleagues had joined in the past couple of years. I quickly learnt that Canvas has the vision and culture to attract the best people. Coupled with a global platform that draws the world’s biggest brands, Canvas is succeeding where many others have struggled”, He added “I hope to play a part in the continued success and growth of Canvas, working with teams throughout the business and our partners to establish Canvas as a must-have for business of every size.
Having lived in the US for a period, you will now find James at home in the countryside of his native England - relaxing by oil painting and keeping healthy by swimming and playing tennis.
Chief Product Officer
Josh was originally born and raised in NYC and the surrounding area. He then went off to the University of Kentucky for his Bachelor's in History. Since then he has worked at Neilsen, TheDeal, Katz Radio Group & Euromoney PLC. He has also started and sold eAgent, BrandClick, Uppidy (now Armortext) and Folr, amassing a wealth of experience in creating awesome products.
As he explains rather cheekily, he ended up at Canvas when "[James Quigley] put me in a chicken wing... I screamed uncle." Josh was drawn to the problem Canvas is solving, the people it has and the drive for a culture fit as much as anything else. By far, it's the people at Canvas that he likes best. As our Chief Product Officer, he's in charge of growing the product team to support and underpin every facet of the business while servicing all its constituents.
Josh is a single dad to a 9-year-old son who keeps him busy. He enjoys being a dad and also likes travel, food, swimming, being with friends/family. Back in second grade, he got a perfect score on the California Achievement Test for Math. He's had no more math moments since! ; )
VP, Professional Services
"I was really drawn to Canvas because I have known [James Quigley] for almost 10 years, and I've watched him build something from just a concept to a fantastic company with a great product, great people, and a great culture," says Jonathan. He's been very impressed with the team at Canvas, and the passion everyone has for solving customer problems. He's proud to take on the role of VP of Professional Services to help scale our app development and customized PDF team into a robust offering of professional services that will compliment the Canvas platform and deepen our relationships with our customers.
Jonathan was most recently the practice lead for mobile strategy at AT&T. Prior to AT&T, he provided consulting services in mobile marketing, enterprise mobility and product development at Verizon Wireless and Sprint. He has over 18 years of multidisciplinary experience from strategy and technology professional services to product management and marketing in the telecommunications and new media industries.
Outside of the office, Jonathan is active with swimming, volleyball and yoga. His 2 amazing teenaged children help keep him on his toes while teaching him about the world from their perspective. In addition, he's a youth volleyball coach and he volunteers with the Naval Academy alumni association helping high school students with their applications.
Vice President, Partner Programs
Bill (or _bill, as he signs his emails) claims that over his 20+ year career, he has been lucky enough to land in positions to market innovative products, services, companies, and organizations. He has held marketing and business development positions for such leading-edge technology companies as Pioneer Technologies, Sybase, Netscape Communications, AOL and AddThis; each having introduced brand new business categories that today are widely recognized in both business and consumer markets.
It’s no surprise that he finds Canvas and the emerging business category of mobile data acquisition an exciting opportunity. “I love it when I find myself amidst a significant sea change in business.” Bill said, ”I am so honored to join the Canvas team: This company is building an enormously flexible platform that doesn't just make it easier for people to gather information, it enables the data to be collected with greater speed and accuracy, and to be securely moved to where it ultimately can be most useful.”
Prior to joining Canvas, Bill held leadership roles at US Lacrosse and today remains connected to the sport as a board member of The Tewaaraton Award, what Wikipedia calls “the lacrosse equivalent of football's Heisman Trophy.” Also, if you’re a very early riser, you may find Bill playing Ultimate Frisbee in Bethesda, MD. He says that when he does poorly, he’s quick to remind the younger players that his granddaughters Abby and Molly are just glad he’s still out there throwing the disc. That usually quiets them.
Director, SMB Sales
A self-described, “mobile apps muse,” Kalliopi helps new trial subscribers leverage the power of the Canvas App Builder. "My goal,” Kalliopi says, “Is never to just recreate a paper form as an app. I strive to make something better because Canvas's technology allows me to do that." One of Kalliopi’s favorite apps is a data capture app for fender bender car accidents. “I wasn't sure what information to collect when I was rear-ended last spring,” she remembers, “But I knew we had an app for that so I downloaded it on the scene and it put me at ease."
Kalliopi's interests outside the office include home decor, DIY projects, and upcycling vintage furniture. She also loves to bake, watch Steeler football and enjoys healthy competition whether she's playing the boys in Mortal Kombat or fantasy football.
Technical Support / Quality Assurance
Joe helps Canvas customers with technical support. “When they get to me,” Joe says, “They are usually half way to a solution and I them get all of the way there.” Joe likes working at Canvas, he says, because of the people, the opportunities for upward mobility and because he gets to work on many platforms. “Everyone here is relaxed but works hard towards the same goals,” he says. Joe’s favorite apps use Dispatch, a Canvas feature that allows field workers to receive their next project assignments on their mobile devices. Joe also manages testing each new product upgrade and release before an iteration goes live. Joe has a long history of helping others – he served two terms with AmeriCorps and worked with high risk youths in New Orleans.
For fun, Joe hikes glaciers in Iceland, rides ATVs in volcanos and watches football and baseball.
VP, Customer Evangelism & Product Marketing
In addition to working with Canvas' subscribers, Jason is responsible for training all new hires on the art and science of building mobile apps. Jason brings over 18 years of sales experience to Canvas, including time spent at PSINet, Getty Images and ESI International. Jason’s favorite Canvas client experience was when a drywall company went from being a single-user account to signing up 35 of its foreman because the owner found his team could hang more drywall when using Canvas to keep track of jobs. Jason says his favorite Canvas app is a construction equipment inspection app because, as a kid, he wanted to grow up to become a back hoe driver. Jason likes working for Canvas, he says, “Because the mobile apps space is a red-hot, high-growth field right now.”
When Jason isn’t blazing the trail to help Canvas clients go paperless, he can be found watching Washington Redskins games with his wife and three children or chasing a small white ball around a golf course.
Senior Ruby On Rails Developer
Bugs and errors don’t stand a chance when 12-year software veteran James Braun is on the case. One of Canvas’ lead developers, James builds new product features and improvements including keeping Canvas’ platform current with the latest version of Ruby on Rails. James also specializes in adding graphing enhancements to the user experience and he built the Canvas ROI calculator, a tool that allows Canvas subscribers to estimate how much money their companies are saving each year by switching from paper forms to Canvas. James develops APIs that allow customers to plug Canvas into their backend ERP, CRM, payment and other systems. James credits the other smart developers at Canvas as the main reason why he enjoys his work at the company and says he likes a job where he, “Can use technical skills but also talk to customers.” In his spare time, James enjoys wreck diving off of the coast of the Florida Keys and around reefs around the Caribbean.
Brent is Canvas’ digital Picasso and his palette includes developing Canvas’ Corporate Visual Identity, leading up the company's strong focus on great design expressed through improved user interfaces (UI) and user experience (UX). A culture that encourages out-of-the-box thinking is the reason Brent says he enjoys working at Canvas. One of his favorite projects was designing a cookie ordering form for a local Girl Scouts troop. "I can get on board with any project that will expedite the delivery of my Tag-a-longs," he added.
When not at work, Brent spends his time designing mobile games and doing CrossFit in his garage gym.
Vice President, Channel Sales & Business Development
Devon develops business partnerships that help Canvas expand its universe of subscribers. Devon is a jack of all trades with a comprehensive background in sales, business development, marketing and customer support in the mobile space. “I absolutely love working at Canvas,” Devon says, “Because the organization helps transform how businesses connect with their customers. I love watching partners have those ‘a-ha’ moments when they see the transformational value Canvas offers.” Devon is particularly excited about working with strategic channel partners that see the value in bringing mobile apps to their customers.
He enjoys spending free time with his family in Northern Virginia. He is also an avid fitness buff. Devon's favorite app is the "Strength Training Log" which helps him to stay fit and energized so he can keep up with his kids.
Director, Enterprise Sales - US
Caroline first dove into the world of technology as a Data Account Executive for Nextel (now Sprint). Since then, she has worked for 15 years in software, technology, payment platforms and mobile application sales. Canvas is now the 3rd start-up organization that she has been a part of. "I love the ever-changing, energetic world of start-up companies," she explains. As the Director of Enterprise Sales in the US, her role is to help large organizations streamline their business processes, to champion the value of Canvas within their organization and to ensure a long, mutually-beneficial relationship. She's proud that she gets to make a difference in business every day!
Caroline loves the company energy and customer-focused drive of the entire Canvas team. The Canvas platform enables organizations to make work easier for their employees, make better business decisions and can morph and change as business needs change. As she says, "That is very powerful to any organization. Being a part of an organization that truly believes it is making a difference in the world is exciting, motivating and why I am here. The team is a wonderful group of individuals working together as a team to accomplish great things!"
Outside of Canvas, Caroline enjoys spending time with her husband when he is not at work (he is a full-time firefighter and owns a Landscape Company) and their 4-legged "kids" - 5-year-old chihuahua rescues Mac and Mia. She also handles the office work for the landscaping company. A proud graduate of The Ohio State University, you'll find her cheering on the Buckeyes during the college football season. OH-IO!! In addition, Caroline loves to boat on weekends during boating season, go motorcycle riding with friends and head to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan annually to go snowmobiling. This Emergency Medical Technician since 2001 and 10-year veteran of a volunteer fire department sure knows how to keep busy!
Director, Channel Enablement - Asia
Martin has had a weatlh of experience over the past decade while immersed in Digital Sales/Business Development in the APAC region. He has developed accompanying expertise as well, including Product Development, Product Marketing and Channel Sales and Marketing. In addition he had nearly another decade of experience in the Telco space, gaining both B2B as well as B2C expertise. His previous stints include Singtel, Nokia, Smaato, NAVTEQ and Velti.
Martin was "extremely excited at the prospect of working on an extremely horizontal platform where almost any and every vertical could benefit from working with Canvas." He is responsible for helping channel partners, both carrier and System Integrators, light up sales in their respective areas. In the BD part of his role, Martin explores new opportunities and partners within the APAC ecosystem.
Outside of Canvas, he loves life in general but if he had to list interests, they would be: sports, tech toys, reading, kids, dogs, cats, and solitude - even if they may not mix well together!
Digital Marketing Specialist
Fresh out college, Keith decided to depart from the career he thought he was going to pursue (being a sports agent) in order to join the Canvas team. As a front-line player, Keith spends all day helping new subscribers get set up on Canvas and veteran users to optimize their Canvas experience. Keith was drawn to Canvas, he says, “Because the people seemed very passionate about the Canvas mission but exhibited a healthy balance of being relaxed yet driven to succeed.” Keith is passionate about helping others and he has already hit the ground running at Canvas, drawing rave reviews from subscribers and colleagues for his patience and enthusiasm. When not at work, you will find Keith watching George Mason basketball or watchingNeflix with his Labradoodle Chloe. Sr. Mobile App Consultant, Asia Pacific
Fresh from an honours degree in philosophy, Matt decided that he’d had enough of pondering the mysteries of the universe and has joined up with Canvas’ APAC team. As a front-line consultant, Matt spends his time helping new subscribers get set up on Canvas and works with them to meet their business goals. Matt was drawn to Canvas, he says, “Because it is a service that replaces an outdated system with one that is easy, efficient and great for the environment. I think Canvas is to paper forms and manual data entry, what emails were to postal letters. I jumped at the chance to be part of this great organisation.” When not at work, you will find Matt playing soccer, watching films or pitching a tent somewhere in nature. His favorite app is, “Ultimate Fitness Training Log”, which he uses to keep on point at the gym.
Mobile App Consultant, Asia Pacific
With a Diploma in Computer Science and a fantastic Customer Service background, Preva has joined the Canvas team from Down Under as a front-line consultant. Preva enjoys working with clients to assist and accomplish their business goals. “Helping new trial subscribers discover the potential of Canvas has been a highlight for me so far.” Preva was drawn to Canvas, she says, “Because Canvas offers a Product that is simple, affordable and powerful and is used by multiple organisations and users across APAC. I look forward to using my skills gained from University to build complex Apps for Canvas users.”
When not at work, Preva enjoys returning to Brisbane to spend quality time with her family, hitting the beaches, and of course watching the rugby “Go the ALL BLACKS!”
Enterprise Sales Executive
Josh's background is as varied as Canvas' subscriber base. He has experience in roofing, plumbing, electrical work, automotive repair and customer service. Josh chose Canvas because he says, "The company has a relaxed atmosphere but is filled with a multitude of intelligent people from different backgrounds that work furiously to see Canvas succeed. " Josh is most excited about helping subscribers realize the benefits of using Canvas. After only a few weeks on the job he reported, "I got a customer on chat that needed help with Canvas. After a short demo they later decided to sign up for a trial!" Josh's favorite app is the golf score sheet so he can make sure his friends, "don't forget how to count while playing!"

Jason is passionate about helping companies tell their stories in new and interesting ways. He was excited to tell Canvas' story because we’re empowering business owners to not only transform their businesses to save time and money by going paperless but also helping them solve their problems.
As our Vice President of Marketing, Jason heads up our social media, SEO, and traditional marketing efforts. Having joined from LivingSocial, he's a SaaS metrics junkie and was recently ranked 5th on the DCInno 30 #DCTech Twitter Personalities To Follow, along with the likes of Steve Case!
Hailing from The Tarheel State and impressed by the power of the Canvas app builder, he’s currently trying to make the perfect grilling app. When not lost inside Google analytics, you can find him grilling, hiking, or taking long walks on the beach with his wife. Their ongoing battle is who will be going to the store for milk (notified of course by Dispatch).
Growth Marketing Analyst
Hailing from Boston, Jason joined Canvas after graduating from American University. A self described tech junkie, he works as a marketing operations analyst. From research reports to analyzing potential partner, he's done it all.
Jason sees a bright future, not only for tech but also Canvas. He loves working here because it helps “people from losing data and improves productivity”. He’s excited for this fall, as he will get to research growth over our different industries and help bring further insight to Canvas.
When not combing through piles of data, you can find Jason wandering through DC, watching the Patriots or eating thin mints (the best Girl Scout cookie).
Sr. Technical Designer
One of our technical designers, Bobby makes custom PDFs amazing for our clients. Graduating from JMU in telecommunications, he was always interested in computer graphics and graphic design. Working at Canvas has given him the opportunity not only to learn more about these fields, but also to grow.
Of all the features Canvas provides, Bobby’s favorite is reference data. “It’s the variety” Bobby says, “from prepopulated fields to in app calculations. It’s cool what you can do with reference data”. Like graphic design, the possibilities are endless with reference data.
When not at Canvas, you can find Bobby playing golf or fishing. He also loves all types of music (except for country). Many evenings and weekends you can find him at music festivals, or at venues around DC, especially on U street.
Mobile App Consultant, Asia Pacific
Fresh out of a Commerce/Arts degree from the University of Sydney, Ben seized the opportunity to work at Canvas. Not only does Canvas offer a great product to share with clients, but as someone who regularly volunteers for charity, Canvas's 'Ante Up' program matched perfectly with Ben's personality.
As a Mobile App Consultant, Ben loves seeing Canvas streamline and simplify a business' paperwork; "It's so rewarding to see a client save time, money and help the environment by using Canvas' apps”. When not working, Ben loves to play cricket, support Liverpool FC and the New Orleans Saints, grill a blue steak on the BBQ and brew his own micro-beer
Sr. Mobile App Consultant
A recent marketing graduate from George Mason, Stephen stumbled across the opportunity to work for Canvas. It was a perfect coincidence because he loves it here. While everyone was independent, the company was still focused on the same goal of helping companies become more efficient with mobile apps.
As a Sr. Mobile App Consultant, Stephen enjoys working with the sales team and getting to talk to business people every day. He admits "I love talking to people and helping solve peoples' problems. Helping people understand Canvas is huge." It's a growing opportunity, not just for businesses but also for Stephen.
When not helping people see the light with Canvas, you can find Stephen boxing. He also enjoys playing video games, and watching reality tv such as Survivor, The Apprentice, and Big Brother (especially for his competitive streak).
Senior Graphic Designer
A graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University in graphic design, Lynn returned to her roots in Woodbridge while looking for a job. Her passion for design shows in her ability to find projects. While working on different design projects, Lynn was looking for a bigger opportunity.
Then, she found Canvas. Lynn loves the environment, and was immediately attracted to Canvas’s mission to create paperless offices. When she had a chance to come by the office, she loved it here too. “I really liked the people, how it works here” Lynn said. Down to earth and hardworking, Lynn has been a great addition to the team.

Director Channel Sales
In his junior year of college, while studying at the George Washington University, Justin began working for Nextel Communications (now Sprint) prior to the first color screen phone launching. Over the past 11 years, Justin has held several positions at Sprint, most recently as a Regional Public Sector Sales Manager. As both an Account Executive and Sales Manager, Justin has made a career of bringing "solutions" that improve productivity and enhance efficiencies to small business, enterprise, healthcare, higher education, and public sector organizations. Knowing the language of both the public and private sector, he is able to address the needs of all organizations with great success.
So why Canvas as the second chapter of his life? “I’m young and I want to accomplish big things” Justin said with a smile, “I was looking for Silicon Valley Pride, and saw it in Canvas.” He wanted a place where the product was revolutionary, and the people both worked hard and had a sense of responsibility toward the company. After just a few weeks of being here, he feels that sense of commitment and passion.
As Director of Channel Sales, he will be working as an integrator, the crucial link of communication between Canvas and our various channels. He’s excited to help convey the value in Canvas that will benefit channels further growth.
When not at Canvas, you can find Justin at his local volunteer fire department in Baltimore, MD. Currently a Lieutenant, he’s been keeping his community safe for over 12 years. He loves spending time outdoors playing golf, and running half marathons.
Junior Rails Developer
Damien joins us as a junior rails developer. He studied programming through high school and college but put it down when he wanted to become a dentist. Eventually, he decided to come back to programming, going to a bootcamp in Baltimore to get back up to speed.
As he was applying for jobs, he found out about Canvas. He was interested in the friendly atmosphere and flexible hours. Working here has been great for him, "Chris and James have helped me to learn quickly and get up to speed." Damien said.
When not at Canvas, you can find Damien producing music, or teaching SAT and math.
Ruby on Rails Developer
While Jeff initially wanted to be a graphic designer, he realized his real passion for work was programming. He began doing front end programming at HZDG. But he wasn't satisfied. "I wanted to work on both the front and back end of programming," said Jeff. So, he took a three month intensive Ruby on Rails boot camp, working on his programming skills for up to twelve hours a day.
Not only was Canvas an opportunity to use his Ruby on Rail skills, but also a unique culture. "The people I talked with seemed really awesome to work with," Jeff said. It's proved to be a good environment for continued growth as well. Jeff explained that, "most development teams have a sink or swim mentality. At Canvas I get to do great work and learn at the same time."
When not at work, you can find Jeff playing electric guitar, reading science or science fiction books, or lifting at the gym.
Sydney is originally from the small, but great, state of New Hampshire, and attended the University of New Hampshire, where she studied Geography and International Affairs. After receiving her Bachelor's Degree, Sydney started investigating startup culture while teaching a class on innovation for high school students. She found startups so interesting that she began to look for job openings.
Sydney loved the environmental consciousness and benefits of a paperless business. "Our product impacts customers' lives on a daily basis," Sydney explained. Originally joining Canvas as a Mobile App Consultant, her favorite part was being able to speak Spanish with some customers."It's validating to know other learning ties into my work," she mentioned.
In May of 2015, Sydney moved from Sales to the Software Development team to expand her exposure to the technical side of the product and gain more industry knowledge. She quickly earned the Certified Scrum Master certification soon after, and continues to apply those skills daily.
When Sydney isn't writing status reports or removing roadblocks for her fellow team members, you can find her exploring DC or hiking.
Customer Success Consultant
TJ, ever since he was little, has worked with people from all walks of life. Growing up in a Navy family, he lived around the world. The last twelve years, he's worked hands on with people at different restaurants in the Great American Restaurant chain. In his various roles, from server to front of house management, he worked to improve customer experience.
But with a growing family, he wanted to be able to have more regular hours to spend time with his kids. As a conservationist and technology enthusiast, he loved Canvas' mission to make work easier as well as reduce paper use. "If everyone's lives were easier" TJ said, "we'd get more done."
TJ has enjoyed working here, and not only for the snacks and halo tournaments. He enjoys helping customers work more efficiently with Canvas. Add on all the growth in a company he believes in, TJ is excited for the road ahead.
When not at work, you can find TJ playing with his kids, his tuba, or out on the green, working on his putting game.
Sr. Mobile App Consultant
Raised in Philadelphia, Corey graduated from JMU in 2011 with a degree in Kineseology. Working in physical rehabilitation, he loved helping people. However, he was ready to take his work in supporting people further, without going back to school.
That's when he came across Canvas. With his background in both helping people and in sales, our sales team was a perfect fit. More than the position, He loved the laid back startup atmosphere. "Everyone wants to help everyone" Corey said, happy with the flat organization. From his standing desk, he's happy to help people all around the world work better with Canvas.
When Corey's not at work, you can find him doing a variety of sports, from golf to hiking.
Danny comes to Canvas with six years of experience working in QA for organizations such as Wells Fargo, US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and Kaiser Permanente. But these positions tended to be long term contract and Danny wanted something for the long haul.
That's when Danny found Canvas. Immediately, he loved the culture, from working with young professionals to being closely tied to the development team. "I get to see changes day to day." Danny said, "that wasn't always the case in my other QA positions."
When not at Canvas, Danny loves The Travel Channel and his favorite show of all time "Bizarre Foods".
Director of Customer Acquisition
Justin comes to Canvas with over a decade of experience in customer acquisition and online marketing at AdJuggler, AddThis and LivingSocial. He brings a technical background in ad operations, knowledge of a wide variety of ad server platforms and tools as well as leadership in running in-house and client ad campaigns.
Justin was excited to come to Canvas. "It's cool to see the actual difference Canvas makes to businesses" Justin said. "It's something they could use to become more efficient." With the opportunity to grow customer acquisition it seemed like a perfect fit.
When Justin's not at work, you can find him playing his french horn or outdoors either biking or backpacking.
Nate comes to Canvas with a diverse development background. At Booz Allen Hamilton, he did a variety of coding including iOS, Android, desktop development, C#, and Java. Through the years, Android development has been his passion. While he had done a variety of coding at previous jobs, he wanted to focus his work specifically on Android. That's when he saw the opportunity at Canvas to be an Android Developer.
At Canvas, Nate enjoys the flexibility in his work and being in Refraction, our co-working space. "Being in a co-working space," Nate explained, "I get to meet people I never would have." He especially enjoys getting to know the guys with the 3D printer and experimenting with it.

Chris comes to Canvas with a varied background helping businesses improve their processes. He's helped many in the Northern Virginia Area with their taxes, including as a tax manager for a small CPA firm in Falls Church.
But, he was ready to try something different, and found that in Canvas. He liked the small, family feel and saw opportunity as a designer. "I've always had analytical skills," Chris said, "it's about improving the process. How can I help their business perform better?" Today, he gets to do this by helping companies create great PDFs to share with their customers and partners.
When Chris isn't working you can find him hiking, camping, or fishing. He also loves to race auto-cross on the weekends.
Sr. Mobile App Consultant
Graduating from Belmont University in 2013, Hillary comes to Canvas after traveling around the world. Her mission work took her to 11 countries in 11 months. By the end, she was ready to invest more in her career. When reading The Muse, she found Canvas.
Her studies had gotten her interested in startups. She was especially drawn to Canvas' friendly and supportive environment. "Culture is big for me," said Hillary, "a toxic environment can change how you feel." She especially liked Canvas' atmosphere. She explained that, "everyone works hard but no one takes themselves too seriously."
When not at work, Hillary enjoys yoga, running, shopping, and finding new adventures.
After graduating from VCU with a degree in Graphic Design, Garron worked at the Fairfax County Public Schools. While he enjoyed bringing a youthful design energy to the school system, he was also looking for a place to call home, and a place where he could flourish creatively.
He was attracted to Canvas because of our belief in failing fast. "It's young and open," Garron said. "Being allowed to fail and learn from failure is a rarity among companies nowadays." He's enjoying the artistic freedom he has here, and having a chance to tackle new projects.
When not at work, you can find him watching movies in the theater, staying up to date on internet sub-culture, or planning his next vacation.
Systems Administrator & Operations Lead
Blake comes to Canvas with seven years of experience in Systems Administration, working with well known organizations including Six Flags and Universal Studios of Orlando.
With his family up in the DC area, Blake was looking to be closer to his family. He also heard about Canvas through Josh Matheny and Brent Neider. "Josh asked me to send my resume," Blake explained. "Three weeks later I was working in the office."
More than familiar faces, Blake was attracted to the culture, especially Canvas' flexibility and idea of personal ownership. Blake pointed out that, "no one is pushy here. I can set my own pace and I like that."
Outside of work, Blake enjoys playing video games on his PS4, getting lost in good fantasy novels, and spending time with his family.
Mobile App Consultant - Customer Support
Originally from Norfolk, Ellen has become almost a Northern Virginia native after graduating from George Mason University in 2013. Before coming to Canvas, she worked with another SaaS software, helping contractors and small businesses.
But Ellen wanted to make a larger difference in her work. That's when she found Canvas, and the opportunity to not only help businesses but also reduce paper consumption. She's found working at Canvas a great fit. "It's fast paced," Ellen explained, "but I don't feel embarrassed to ask a question."
When she's not working, you can find Ellen reading up on modern European history, running or painting.
Mobile App Consultant - Customer Support
Joseph has always enjoyed helping people. Previously, he worked as a swim instructor helping people in the pool. Looking to his future, Joseph wanted a change and was passionate about IT that he was learning at school.
Looking to get into technology, he found Canvas. Not only was Canvas an opportunity to pursue his passion, but also a place for growth through sales. "If you can sell IT," Joseph explained, "you can learn the world of IT." Today, he's able to bring his skills as a teacher to help a wide variety of customers and potential customers understand Canvas.
More than the work itself, Joseph also enjoys the Canvas culture. "I saw everyone's bio on the website," Joseph said. "I like that Canvas treats employees with respect. It was an important factor when I was looking for my next job."
When not helping Canvas customers, you can find Joseph enjoying a quiet night with his wife, two cats and a dog. He also enjoys running, swimming, and biking. he hopes to do his first triathlon soon.
Mobile App Consultant
Emily comes to Canvas with a background in helping create great experiences, she began her career in wedding and event planning. However, she was tired of the long hours, and wanted to give back more to the environment.
That's when she found Canvas. She liked how Canvas was helping businesses ditch paper and the people here. "It seemed like a great opportunity," Emily said.
Today, she enjoys helping point people in the right direction. More than just her work, she enjoys the culture at Canvas. "Everyone here is nice to work with," she said, "it's rare to find that."
When not at Canvas, you can find Emily helping out with her dad's antique business, hiking and camping, or crafting.
Megg brings both an entrepreneurial spirit and experience in mobile app development. For awhile, he ran his own app business, making mobile apps for windows 8, android, and iOS as well as running a few different websites.
Yet, he was looking to join something larger, hopefully in the Reston area. He was attracted to Canvas because it was in the field he knew. He knew it was a good fit with our culture of flexible schedules, open communication. The location is so good he can even walk to work!
When not at work, you can find Megg working on his Associates Degree or creating websites, music videos or other fun projects with friends.
Sr. Mobile App Consultant
Having graduated from Radford University in December 2014, James Franco was looking for a startup to grow with. "Startups can become whatever you make it." James explained, "especially in the technology industry."
When a family friend told him about the position at Canvas, he submitted his resume. "I was excited about Canvas' track record" James said, "it seemed like a great time to join." More than what Canvas does, he also liked the friendly and laid-back atmosphere.
Experienced helping customers as a server, he brings those skills as a Mobile App Consultant to Canvas. His favorite part is the app builder. "I like the idea of creating something, even without a tech background," James said. "It's cool to be able to create an app."
When not at work, you can find James watching Game of Thrones, rooting on Washington's sports teams, or out playing a round of golf with friends.
Senior QA Engineer
With over 21 years experience as a software tester/QA specialist, a CSTE certification and a BS degree in Accounting, Chad knows how to put Canvas to the test. Now based in Florida, his path first crossed with Canvas co-founder Matt Warner's in Iowa in the mid-2000s, where they worked together for over 3 years.
The two kept in touch over the years so when he found himself leaving AT&T, he talked with Matt and liked the opportunity and challenge that Canvas offered. "Canvas is an awesome solution; I love learning and love a new challenge." says Chad, "Canvas employees are great to work with and I love working in a smaller company."
Chad is an avid music trivia fan who loves 1980s music; in fact, he still has VHS tapes of MTV music videos from the 1980s! In addition to jamming to music, he spends time with his wife and daughter whenever he can and enjoys traveling, golfing and relaxing at a pool or beach.
Mobile Application Consultant
Ewan was born in Maputo, Mozambique and has lived in various countries growing up including Mozambique, Angola, Ethiopia, UK, and Guatemala. Both his parents work for NGO’s, which is why they moved so much. With all this international exposure, Ewan has become trilingual, explaining that in addition to English, "I speak Spanish fluently and Portuguese rather poorly."
It was through one of his best friends, James Franco (who works at Canvas), that Ewan found us. He says, "I was drawn to Canvas primarily because of the culture but also because of the opportunities for growth and advancement you get from working at a startup." Ewan joined Canvas as a Mobile Application Architect, working with customers to build apps that addressed their business needs. Within 10 months, Ewan took his product knowledge and commitment to customer satisfaction to the sales team and became a Mobile Application Consultant.
Ewan was brought up watching football (soccer) with his dad and fell in love with the sport. He also enjoys spending time with his best friends (who happen to work at Canvas too!).
Kseniia came from Ukraine with a Master’s degree in Teaching and experience as a professional educator. She moved to pursue new opportunities and to achieve her American dream. When she first came to the US she became a VP for Community Services at National Society of Collegiate Scholars while pursuing a degree in accounting. Upon graduation in 2015, she received an award of Academic Achievement in Accounting and was soon spotted by Canvas at a job fair.
She loves being a part of the Canvas team, its culture, working with outstanding professionals and truly unique people. She says: “Canvas is my family. We are here for each other. We grow, build and succeed together.” She is driven to help businesses and individuals succeed just as Canvas helps thousands of businesses and individuals to increase their productivity and efficiency!

Co-Working / Front Desk Associate
Jordan graduated from Salisbury University with a degree in Communications, as she loves to work with people! Despite her love of traveling and visiting other countries, she has lived in the DMV area for most of her life. She found Canvas and Refraction through her post-graduation job search for something different and exciting. The concept of working within a co-working office was definitely that - something new and intriguing!
Jordan loves that Canvas has a culture and work environment that focuses on the fact you are a human first, not just an employee! As she explains, "This is something I have never heard of or experienced at any other company! I can't imagine now working in any other kind of environment." Jordan's role at Canvas and its home within Refraction is one that allows her to interact with people from all different networks and backgrounds. She welcomes new co-workers and visitors as she helps keep the co-working space up and running!
Outside of work, she can be found doing something fitness related, spending time with family and friends, or on those laid back weekends - binge watching Netflix while enjoying frozen yogurt!!
Mobile App Consultant
As a recent graduate of James Madison University, Bridget found out about Canvas through her brother Zach and mutual friends James F. and Ewan. She decided to apply for the MAC position because in her last year of college, she found herself wanting to enter the world of business rather than pursue a career in her major field of Justice Studies.
Bridget quips, "The thing I love about Canvas is the unlimited free coffee... kidding! I love the welcoming environment and how everyone is treated as equals." She also enjoys the opportunity to compete against her brother in a professional setting. They've had years of practice going head to head, and doing so in the workplace (while also contributing to Canvas' success) is proving to be very motivating.
Outside of work, Bridget likes to play with her dog and spend time doing just about anything outside. She especially likes being near a body of water like a beach, river, etc.
Senior Customer Success Consultant
Jayashri is a graduate of Cleveland State University, where she earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. She came to Canvas from another startup, where she had a chance to do a post sales role. She says, "I instantly gravitated towards it and fell in love. I now have been a Customer Success Manager in the software industry for over 11 years."
She was introduced to Canvas from a previous CEO who knew Kathy, our Chief People Officer. As Jayashri explains, "I was drawn to Canvas, as it reminded me very much of my old startup. I could see there would be challenges, which I love to take on. I also liked the culture and the people." What also attracted her to Canvas is the fun work environment, the people, and the hustle and bustle of a startup environment.
As a Senior Customer Success Consultant at Canvas, Jayashri has the opportunity to speak with many Canvas clients and hear the amazing things they are doing with the product. She loves her role here helping them make even greater use of Canvas and feels she can and will make an impact to help grow Canvas, as well as herself. Plus, as she attests, "The culture is amazing here."
Jayashri is married with a very energetic 3-year-old boy. Outside of Canvas, she can be found reading, cooking various dishes, hiking, doing wine tours and spending time with her family.
Scott comes to Canvas with a background in soccer and sales. On the soccer side, he's been playing for 22 years at both amateur and professional levels. He also coached for over 11 years before joining us. On the sales side, he's worked for 6 years building a career. Scott heard about Canvas through his long-time friend TJ Fredrick and turned down an opportunity to join the Avengers to come to Canvas!
Scott explains that "The community feel of the company is overwhelmingly great! Everyone is so friendly and willing to help others succeed." He was drawn to the atmosphere and personality of Canvas, while the readily available snacks are an added bonus! As an App Architect, Scott's role at Canvas is to help each customer achieve their desired results when converting paper forms to Mobile Applications, making them functional according to the customer's specifications.
As you may be able to guess, Scott enjoys spending his free time on soccer, soccer, soccer. You'll find him watching games, playing in highly competitive leagues and watching educational videos for training youth players.
Head of Sales Operations & Analytics
Mike is responsible for the business intelligence and analytics function at Canvas, whose mission is to turn data into actionable insights across the organization. Previously, Mike led the sales operations & strategy function at SevOne and helped grow revenues from $20M to over $100M in three years. He brings his deep expertise to Canvas and we look forward to how he will help grow the business as the head our Business Intelligence/Analytics team.
Mike explains, "What attracted me to Canvas was the company's focus on giving back to the community along with a disruptive mobile platform that is transforming the workforce management market to turn their paper forms into mobile applications. This ultimately provides unparalleled insight into their most important resources, that is, human resources."
Mobile Application Consultant
Zach graduated from Radford University in December of 2014, with previous experience as a server and legal researcher. His friends James Franco and Ewan Steel were raving about the culture at Canvas, which convinced him to apply. He was also interested in Canvas as an application with a worldwide market, which he found exciting.
Zach enjoys the Canvas culture, the team, and being able to help customers streamline their businesses. As a MAC, he's the first person new customers speak to and he helps them get started in streamlining their business processes.
When not working, Zach likes to hunt, fish, and do anything else outdoors, along with keeping up with new movies and series, as well as reading epic fantasy novels.
